15 Days to Bring 150,000 Meals to Your State. Ready?

A can of food – a symbol and a call to action. When most people think of helping the hungry, they think of donating a can of food. The simple, humble can. What a powerful symbol.

Yes, donating a can of food to a food bank is a good first step. But it cannot be your only step, if you want to help lead the systemic change that’s needed to end hunger in America.

Today, we launch WeCanEndThis.com, a yearlong initiative to shift the conversation about hunger in America and create real, tangible solutions. We start by turning a symbol into a call to action.

Thanks to the generosity of Tyson Foods, we have 10 semi-truckloads of much-needed protein to deliver to food banks across the country. And, you can help us decide which 10 states will receive them.

When you promise to help end hunger, we will give you a digital can of food to donate to the state of your choice. On March 18 at 5pm ET, we will tally the digital cans and the Top Ten states will each win a truckload of real food.

15 days. 1.5 million meals. 10 states.

You can make an even bigger difference. For the first $25,000 donated to our charity partners, ConAgra Foods Foundation will double your impact thru a matching grant.

The Big Picture of WeCanEndThis.com

Today, we are launching a yearlong initiative to spark innovation and a broader engagement in the movement to end hunger in America. We have enough food to feed all 49 million Americans in need. Unfortunately, there are barriers that prevent us from becoming a hunger-free nation.

So what’s it going to take? First and foremost, we need more people to care enough to take action. Then, we need them to keep caring and taking action until we reach our goal. It’s really that simple. Simple doesn’t mean easy. Nor does it mean just a click and poof it’s gone. But, it does mean it’s doable.

That’s why we’ve brought together Share Our Strength, Feeding America, Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, Mashable, PepsiCo, ConAgra Food Foundation, and Tyson Foods. Together, we will spend the rest of the year to grow our movement thru four phases of action: Continue Reading

CauseLab Launches March 15

On March 15, the CauseLab kicks-off a 30-day virtual brainstorm through a new digital co-creation platform called Goodzuma — all in an effort to develop the most powerful, effective, and impactful ideas to end hunger in America.

We are inviting disrupters and innovators from all disciplines to solve three main challenges to ending hunger in America. How do we:

Design the hunger-free community?
Humanize hunger using data?
Accelerate local action?

Participants in the room at SXSWi will use Goodzuma to create and capture their ideas during the daylong session. At the same time, people nationwide can join the brainstorm to edit these ideas or upload their own. After the brainstorm ends, our charity partners will review all the ideas and use the money raised thru WeCanEndThis.com to implement the best ones.

And, our charity partners aren’t the only ones who will benefit. Through the generosity of Goodzuma, we will award a $1,000 Innovation Prize to the person judged to have the best idea and a $500 Collaboration Prize to the person who helps one of the ideas become better.

Attending SXSWi?
Join us on March 15 in the Austin Suite (3rd floor convention center) for the in-person experience. There will be two sessions: 9:30 am-12 pm and 3:30 pm – 6 pm. You can attend either or both. Each will begin with a bold challenge to end hunger in America and share a first draft of a roadmap for how that happens. Then, you will get quickly to work on creating and shaping your ideas for how take the idea of a hunger-free America and make it a reality.
